Adult Nursing

Adult nursing is designed to help nursing students understand human needs of adult population in response to various health problems from acute and critical phases to chronic and long term phases. As our society becomes more diverse and complex, public demands and expectations for health care providers and health care services are also increasing. Therefore, Adult Nursing aims at equipping our students with sound knowledge of nursing science and compassionate skills in the state-of-the-art technologies of the modern health environment.

Undergraduate Program


>> Adult Nursing I
This course focuses on adults with cardiopulmonary disorders and their health needs for oxygenation.

>> Adult Nursing II
This course focuses on nursing care for adults with problems of nutrition-elimination. Emphasis is placed on identification of physiologic responses to illness, analysis of related factors, and implementation of nursing process to maintain and promote health of the adults.

>> Adult Nursing III
This course focuses on nursing care for adults with problems of defense & protection, cognition and regulation on metabolism. Emphasis is placed on identification of physiologic responses to illness, analysis of related factors, and implementation of nursing process to maintain and promote health of the adults.

>> Adult Nursing IV
This course focuses on adults with musculoskeletal or blood disorders or sensory problems and their health needs for oxygenation, mobility, and sensation.

>> Adult Nursing Ⅴ
This course focuses on nursing care for adults with problems of emergency, cancer, principles & practices of rehabilitation and perioperative management.

>> Adult Nursing Practice I
This course emphasizes on the nursing care for adults with acute health problems in a variety of nursing settings. Emphasis is on the competency in nursing assessment and intervention skills.

>> Adult Nursing Practice II
This course provides students with opportunities to apply nursing knowledge and skills to adults with chronic health problems in various settings. Emphasis is placed on identification of essential nursing problems through techniques of data collection and critical thinking abilities and implementation of effective nursing intervention.

>> Adult Nursing Practice III
This course emphasizes on the emergency nursing practice in a variety of nursing settings. It includes provision of care to persons whose problems range from nonacute to life-threatening.

>> Adult Nursing Practice IV
This course provides students with opportunities to apply nursing knowledge and skills to adults with rehabilitation needs in various settings. Emphasis is placed on identification of essential nursing problems through techniques of data collection and critical thinking abilities and implementation of effective nursing intervention.

>> Adult Nursing Practice Ⅴ
The clinical practice focuses on the nursing care of preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative patients.

>> Advanced Adult Nursing I
Presentation and discussion of the theories and practice of critical care nursing, improving clinical practice, and research in critical and emergency care.

>> Advanced Adult Nursing II
This course is designed to provide nursing concepts and theoretical foundations of nursing practice for adults with chronic health problems. Emphasis is placed on evaluating impact of nursing interventions on adult clients with chronic illness and their families.

>> Seminar on Research in Nursing Intervention
This course is designed to explore various approaches to nursing intervention and evaluate feasibility of each intervention. Emphasis is placed on scientific basis, intervention strategies and measurement of effectiveness in independent nursing intervention.

>> Seminar on Family Related Research
Studies on family related health issues are to be reviewed. Factors influencing family health are explored and analysed, effective interventions and strategies are to be examined. Approaches to family related research in nursing are identified.

>> Lifestyle Related Health Problems
Increase in chronic illness is known to be associated with unhealthy lifestyles due to the modernization, urbanization and aging. This is also linked to the quality of life. This course is designed to review the major health problems secondary to the unhealthy lifestyles and explore various approaches and intervention strategies to change to health lifestyle for disease prevention and health promotion as well as disease management.

>> Symptom Research and Seminar
This course provides understanding of theories explaining symptom experience. Researches regarding symptom assessment and intervention will be critically reviewed. Various researches to relieve symptoms will be explored from the viewpoint of nursing.

>> Seminar on Oncological Nursing
This course focuses on the identification of bio-physical, psychological, socio-cultural and spiritual needs of patients with cancer disease. Effective and equitable clinical practice for oncology patients will be discussed based on evidence-based practice and explore strategies of successful management for projected problems.

>> Seminar on Management of Chronic Illness
Studies on the management of health problems for the chronically ill are to be reviewed, Factors influencing quality of life in the chronically ill are explored and analysed, Effective interventions and strategies to health promotion and quality of life are to be discussed. Approaches to research in nursing care for the chronically ill are to be identified.

>> Seminar on Theoretical Foundations of Health Promotion
This course is designed to review nursing concepts and theoretical foundations of health promotion in nursing. Emphasis is placed on health promotion strategies and interventions and factors influencing health promotion throughout the life cycle.

>>Seminar in adult nursing education
This course is designed to help nurses with years of clinical experiences equip themselves in response to the demands of current society and complex health care environments. Students will be able to obtain advanced knowledge and insights in better understanding their target population who might have diverse needs related to health and illness. Also, students will be able to develop professional approach of clinical practice and advanced teaching skills in order to provide the client-centered care of teaching and counseling which may ensure the high quality of health care service, meeting their clients' expectations and satisfaction.
