History

  Korea University which has presented a new image of a stepping stone to an endless challenge in the world the year 2000, has grown to firmly established a futuristic and a global university where the three major function of a university; research, education and social service, are practiced.

The Korea University

  Korea University, one of the oldest universities, and the oldest university established solely by the people of Korea in the leadership of Mr. Lee Yong Ik, a prominent citizen from a humble origin and a loyal public servant, is located in the northern part of Seoul. Established in 1905, Korea University had born the torchlight leading Korean folk the ways to freedom through the dark era of Japanese occupation, to the evolution of the democratic Republic in 1945 through 1948, and to the prosperity throughout modern history of the nation. With this most prestigious history, Korea University has attained its fame and excellence with the hearty support of Korean people over the years of modern Korea. Korea University is an integrated university with technological complex, the largest of its kind in Korea, and most up-to-date of its kind in Asia. Korea University is South Korea's largest private university and among the top ranked universities in the nation. As of June 1, 2000, the University consisted of 15 colleges, 82 academic departments, 75 research institutes, 3 educational institutes(medical centers) and 18 professional graduate schools including a graduate school of bio-technology, with their strong emphasis on continuing education, has been a major influence in the social and political development of Korea. Theses assets are spread across four campuses: The main campus, Science Campus and Green Campus, located adjacent to each other in Seoul's Anam district: and Seochang Campus, located in Jochiwon City, Choong-nam Province, about 130 kilometers south of capital city.

  Korea University opens its doors to persons of all beliefs, all nationalities and all creeds, and gives instruction in all the major areas of modern knowledge in Korean as well as in 7 major languages of the world. Few institution of higher education have had such a dramatic impact on the history of a nation. From heroic efforts to preserve independence in 1905 to the development of new technologies in the 21st Century, graduates of Korea University have consistently faced the future with courage and creativity. Innovative educational programs today equip new generations of political leaders, scientists, artists and entrepreneurs with the skills and characters they need to explore new dreams of tomorrow.

The College of Nursing

  The College of Nursing is located on Korea university's Green Campus, just a few minutes west of Main Campus, in Anam-dong, Seoul. Nursing education of Korea University has a long history. A 3-year program for the education of nurses was first offered in 1943 during the Japanese domination. In 1967, a 4-year curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree, Bachelor of Science in Nursing(BSN), was first offered by the department of nursing; of the College of Medicine until 1998, and of the College of Nursing since 1999. In 1972, Master of Science in Nursing(MSN) program was first offered and in 1996, the Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science(PhD) program, Research Institute of Nursing Science was established in 1997. College of Nursing has been commissioned by the Ministry of Health and Social Affair as an official training institute, and the first Training Program of the 1-year Home Health Care Nurse launched in September 1998.

  The three general hospitals of Korea University Medical Center located in Seoul and its vicinity; the Anam hospital, the Guro hospital, and the Ansan hospital, offer utmost educational milieu and environment for the development of clinical excellence of the under-graduate, post-graduate and the post-basic nursing students.
